University Marketing and Communications wins two Emmys

Fresno State won San Francisco/Northern California chapter Emmy Awards in two different categories for videos produced by its University Marketing and Communications team. The awards were for a promotional video on the university’s Pride of the Valley campaign and a feature on the Downing Planetarium.

The awards were presented at the 55th annual San Francisco/Northern California Emmy Awards ceremony Aug. 22 at the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center in Sacramento.

A Planetarium is a Place of Wonder” took first place in the Education/Schools – News or Long Form Content category. “Pride of the Valley” won in the Long Form Promotional Spot category.

“These are believed to be our team’s first-ever Emmy Awards – a truly phenomenal honor for those who work hard every day to tell stories that capture the essence of what makes Fresno State such an inspiring place,” said Lauren Nickerson, chief communications officer and chief of staff at Fresno State. “The Pride of the Valley campaign, in particular, was a collaborative effort that nearly everyone on our team had a part in, and it’s nice to see the finished product so powerfully reflect the university’s place in our community.”

Senior video producer Matt Mealer directed both projects with cinematography and motion design by video producers Jeff Phillips, Michael Wootten and Oliver Greenbarg.

The University Marketing and Communications team was also recently recognized for additional awards and honors for Fresno State Magazine, the Fresno State Today storytelling website, the university’s social media strategy and more.
