Fresno State launched a new, centralized storytelling platform on July 1 called Fresno State Today. The new hub, found at today.fresnostate.edu, replaces and modernizes the university’s previous news site, fresnostatenews.com. The new site will also unify other familiar storytelling platforms like Fresno State Magazine, the multimedia stories site and college-specific blogs across campus.
The university first introduced fresnostatenews.com in 1999 – positioning the university to directly share news to its audiences of alumni, friends, students and others in the community without relying solely on traditional media outlets. The site was updated with campus news and feature stories numerous times per week for the past 26 years.
While the previous news site evolved over time with technological advances like video and social media capability, the new Fresno State Today website will provide users with a more robust, consistent storytelling experience that includes larger and more dynamic photo displays and cinematic video storytelling.
“Fresno State Today gives us a fresh, meaningful way to share the stories that matter most to our campus and community,” said Lauren Nickerson, associate vice president for University Marketing and Communications. “This has been a major effort, and I’m especially grateful to Dr. Esra Hashem, whose thoughtful leadership, persistence and vision made it possible — along with the dedication of the team whose unique and dynamic content brought it to life.”
Content for the site will be produced and managed by the University Marketing and Communications team, which has led efforts in recent years to develop the strategic vision, look and feel of the new site. Press releases will continue to be distributed to media partners on a newly-branded template.
The university’s goals with the site were to establish a central landing page for Fresno State news and features, reduce audience fragmentation and increase audience engagement.
In 2024, the team produced more than 300 stories across the university’s various storytelling platforms, with many repurposed for social media to inform the public, celebrate campus achievements and strengthen community connection.
