Fresno State continues to be a driver of social mobility, ranking No. 19 out of nearly 1,400 schools nationwide in the 2025 Social Mobility Index, published by CollegeNet, a provider of web-based on-demand technologies for higher education.
The Social Mobility Index measures the extent to which a college or university educates low- to moderate-income students and graduates them into well-paying jobs allowing them to move from one socioeconomic class to another. Tuition cost, economic background, graduation rate, early career salary, ethos and the size of a school’s endowment are used to determine the rankings.
In September, Fresno State ranked No. 32 nationally in The Wall Street Journal/College Pulse 2025 Best Colleges rankings and tied at No. 30 for social mobility in U.S. News and World Report’s 2026 rankings. In August, Fresno State was ranked the No. 2 university among all public and private schools nationwide in Washington Monthly’s new ranking of Best Colleges in your Tuition (and Tax) Dollars.
