Community stands in solidarity with sexual assault survivors at Take Back the Night

This April marks the 25th year of the Sexual Assault Awareness Month campaign to raise awareness, challenge harmful attitudes and behaviors and promote survivor-centered support systems. Take Back the Night will return to the Fresno State campus, on the lawn outside the Resnick Student Union, from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 23. All are invited to learn and stand in solidarity with survivors of sexual assault, dating/domestic violence and stalking:

  • 5 p.m. Resource fair and food (while supplies last).
  • 6 p.m. Formal programming.
  • 7 p.m. Protest/march.
  • 7:30 p.m. Open microphone for survivors to speak out.***
  • 8:30 p.m. Survivor Medallion Ceremony.

The campaign and event are designed to foster open conversations, advocate for comprehensive prevention strategies and support survivors. Take Back the Night is hosted by Fresno State Survivor Advocacy Services, Breaking the Silence, Fresno State Women’s Alliance and Social Justice Student Club, Fresno State Office of Compliance and Civil Rights, Fresno State Cross Cultural and Gender Center and Fresno State Center for Essential Needs.

***NOTICE TO MEDIA: During the portion of the event titled “Survivor Speak-Out” (7:30 p.m.), individuals will share personal experiences related to sexual assault. Out of respect for the privacy, dignity and safety of survivors, all photography, video recording and audio recording are prohibited during this portion of the program. Please turn off cameras and recording devices and refrain from capturing any images, audio or identifying information during this time.
