The Fresno State Viticulture and Enology Department invites alumni and professionals from the table, wine and raisin grape industry to RSVP to its Grape Day event from 7:30 a.m. to noon, on Tuesday, Aug. 4, to learn about innovative production and processing methods.
The free event begins in the 120-acre campus vineyard with electromagnetic sensing and agrivoltaics demonstrations aimed at growers.
Faculty and staff will also showcase research tied to biostimulant and antioxidant treatments in vineyards and fining agents in white wine production.
Attendees can see renovations to the teaching and research winery and brewery in the Donald E. Gumz Enology Building, which will include a new library of student-produced wines dating back to the start of the Fresno State Winery. Founded in 1997, it was the first bonded winery on a college campus and remains the largest.
The library will feature other unique wines belonging to the department and its founder, Dr. Vincent E. Petrucci, who taught classes at Fresno State and conducted research from 1948 to 1993.
The event begins with a breakfast sponsored by American Vineyard magazine.
