In “Godspell,” a small group of performers help Jesus Christ share his parables through an energetic mix of games, storytelling and sharp comic timing — reimagined for today’s world. With music by Schwartz, the Tony Award-winning composer of “Wicked,” this fresh take on the beloved musical blends pop culture nods, vibrant choreography and a wide range of musical styles to bring new life to timeless messages. As the story journeys from joyful celebration to the emotional depth of the Last Supper and Crucifixion, Jesus’ teachings of kindness, tolerance and love shine with a bold, modern edge.
“In a time of confusion, conflict and unpredictability, ‘Godspell’s messages of hope and creating a better community for all have never been more important,” Herring said. “Our world is changing every single day as we face the unsettling reality of the injustice that prevails in our lives today. Through this production, I wanted to remind audiences that love, acceptance, forgiveness and hope are not relics of the past — they’re the tools we still need to build a ‘Beautiful City.’”
Tebelak’s “Godspell” remains one of the most beloved and imaginative works in American musical theatre. With its playful storytelling, “Godspell” invites audiences to reflect on timeless lessons of kindness, humility and understanding. Both exuberant and deeply moving, it celebrates the beauty of coming together to find light, purpose and hope in an ever-changing world.
The production features performances from Audrey Allen, Catricia Alvarez, Andre Avila-Villanueva, Nico J. Diviccaro, Daphne Doss, Joey Giudici, Justice, Em Monson, Liv Monson, Sage Rivera, Isaiah Samaniego, Diego J. Sosa, Cesar J. Uribe and Grant Wilkins.
