From idea to enterprise

Students transform ideas into thriving ventures through hands-on entrepreneurial experience

  • Course: Entrepreneurship 155E — “Managing the New Venture”
  • Department: Department of Management
  • College: Craig School of Business
  • Professor: Akhil Kanodia, clinical professor of practice in entrepreneurship
  • Course description:

In this course, students learn by building their own business from scratch. In one semester, students conceive new products, create designs, find suppliers, source inventory, develop pricing and marketing strategies, and operate two pop-up store events. Professor Akhil Kanodia, an experienced serial entrepreneur, offers guidance, but students make the key decisions. They’re working for more than just a grade — they’re working to make a profit.

This course teaches practical business skills students will use throughout their careers. Even more important, they develop the confidence to create their own businesses and pursue their entrepreneurial goals.

“I feel excited to go to class and gain this experience. I feel prepared to go into business or start a business of my own, because I’ve learned from those mistakes.”
