The Fresno State Dairy Science Club helped organize a fall milk drive that raised $3,206 and provided 1,147 gallons of milk through the Real California Milk Intercollegiate Give-a-Gallon Challenge.
The club collected milk and donations online and at the Gibson Farm Market and donated its milk to the Fresno State Amendola Family Student Cupboard and the Central California Food Bank.
Three other schools competed in the event: California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; Chico State; and Modesto Junior College. Altogether, the schools raised $4,286 and donated 1,885 gallons.
Fresno State won similar challenges in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Dr. Jessica Graybeal Townsend serves as faculty mentor for the student-led club that hosts other community outreach and professional development activities.
California is the nation’s leading producer of milk, butter, ice cream and nonfat dry milk. The California Milk Advisory Board, which is supervised by the California Department of Food and Agriculture, is funded by the state’s dairies.
