Construction Management students place in top two at competition

Construction management students placed second in the 2026 Associated Schools of Construction Region 6 and 7 heavy civil competition Feb. 4 through 7 at the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks, Nevada.

Fifty-six universities and more than 1,800 students from across 20 states participated in the regional and nationwide competition. In total, 24 students from Fresno State competed in the areas of heavy civil, commercial and design build.

As part of the competition, students are provided with an immersive, real-world construction challenge and must work collaboratively to problem solve within a defined timeframe.

Students on the winning heavy civil team included Matthew Briseno (co-captain), Alexis Camorlinga, Anthony Cantu, Laura Corpus, Joseph Fernandez Gutierrez (captain), Alan Viruete-Millan, along with alternate members Miguel Rico and Puneet Virk. The team was led by faculty coach and construction management lecturer Lloyd Crask.

To prepare for the competition, students began practice mock events beginning this past summer and fall, culminating with a final practice session during the winter break.
