From the Valley to South Korea: Four students take their talent worldwide

Four Fresno State School of Music students are headed to Incheon, South Korea, to perform at ClarinetFest 2026, from July 7 to 11. The students are Gavyn Tapp (of Visalia), a music performance major; Jason Hilario (Clovis), an exercise science major and music minor; Devin Calderon (Visalia), a jazz studies major; and Raul Roldan (Clovis), a music education major.

The four will perform a clarinet quartet piece composed by Calderon to a worldwide audience of professionals and enthusiasts. They passed a rigorous selection process including a proposal, biographies and clips of past performances to earn an invitation to perform at the global event.

The trip is funded by the Dean’s Council Annual Fund and a crowdfunding campaign. Dr. Amelia Smith, clarinet lecturer, is also attending and performing at the conference. This is the second consecutive year Fresno State students have performed at ClarinetFest.
