The California Water Institute at Fresno State will host the San Joaquin Valley Water Resilience Summit: From Reports to Results on campus May 20 and 21.
The two-day event will convene state leaders, regional water agencies, policymakers and stakeholders to review recent studies from the California Department of Water Resources and discuss coordinated approaches to water management in the San Joaquin Valley.
The event is being held as the region continues to face multiple water-related challenges, including climate variability, implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act, land-use changes, subsidence affecting infrastructure, flood management pressures and community impacts.
Recent state-led studies have examined how these issues interact across water systems. The summit will focus on the following efforts:
- State Water Project adaptation strategy.
- San Joaquin Valley conveyance study.
- San Joaquin Valley Watershed (Flood-MAR) studies.
- Unified Water Plan for the San Joaquin Valley.
Laura Ramos, director of the California Water Institute, said the summit is not a traditional conference, describing it as a working, implementation-focused convening.
“These reports provide data-driven insights into water system risks and solutions across the Valley,” Ramos said. “This summit is about bringing leaders together to align around that information and move toward coordinated action.”
The summit will include two primary sessions. Day 1 will focus on alignment, as participants review findings from the studies, hear perspectives from local agencies and discuss systemwide implications. Day 2 will focus on commitment, with participants identifying regional priorities for 2025-30, discussing potential pilot projects, considering policy and regulatory needs, and exploring opportunities for coordination.
Online registration is now open for the San Joaquin Valley Water Resilience Summit. The summit is supported by the California Department of Water Resources, the event’s sponsor.
