A native of Modesto, Dr. Silvia Diego earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Fresno State in May 1989. She then attended the Stanford University School of Medicine and earned her Doctor of Medicine in 1994. After a three-year residency in family medicine at the Stanislaus Medical Center in Modesto, she started her career as a physician at the Golden Valley Health Centers in Modesto where she rose to the rank of chief medical officer. Since 2015, Diego has been in private practice in her own clinic, First Family Medical Care in Modesto.
In addition to her formal education, Diego completed a two-year leadership fellowship at the California Healthcare Foundation (2007) and a UC Berkeley Executive Leadership Program (2012).
Diego’s goal has been to serve the people of Stanislaus County by providing medical treatment for the entire family, with a passion for delivering babies, and to improve the health status of patients in her community. In addition, having served in key leadership roles in health organizations, her overarching mission has been to impact the lives of young people and to serve as a role model in their pursuit of higher education. She has always strived to educate aspiring health care providers early in their careers in order to become excellent clinicians.
Being extremely passionate about education, Diego has always encouraged her staff and patients to pursue it. Recently, she decided to make a generous donation of $1,000 to the Smittcamp Family Honors College. She chose the honors college from among all the academic units at Fresno State because she said she is “always very happy to contribute to such a wonderful university . . . To have a dedicated program in the Central Valley to help talented students excel is what impresses me most of this honors program . . . I’m passionate about education, pushing forward and beyond barriers that could exist. It is great to see programs dedicated towards the education of students in my alma mater and in my backyard where I grew up.”
