World Ag Expo showcases Fresno State student and faculty research, innovations

Agricultural industry supporters from around the globe will have the chance to learn how Fresno State faculty, staff and students are exploring new concepts and technology at the 59th annual World Ag Expo Tuesday through Thursday, Feb. 10–12, at the International Agri-Center (4500 S. Laspina St.) in Tulare. 

The Institute for Food and Agriculture will host a series of research and outreach presentations organized Tuesday, Feb. 10, in Seminar Trailer 1 near the facility’s south admission Gate 16. 

Seminars will cover aquifer recharge and groundwater treatment methods; consumer research on sporting event concession prices; dairy business innovation grants and artificial intelligence production methods; poultry industry extended reality training methods; ice cream meltability prediction techniques; and irrigation technology and testing. 

Center for Irrigation Technology Director Dr. Charles Hillyer will participate in a roundtable discussion Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 9 a.m. in the Heritage Center second-floor meeting room about AI in Ag. He will discuss how OpenAI is expanding into agriculture and demonstrate how farms are using its tools.

Agricultural Ambassador Program students will host a campus information booth that opens at 9 a.m. each day at the Ag Education and Careers Pavilion (Booth 7002-03) to share information about Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology programs and its 1,000-acre campus farm with prospective students and the public.

Fresno State Winery students will be pouring some of their favorite wines Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 10–11 in the wine and cheese pavilion.

Fresno State live mascot Victor E. Bulldog IV will appear for photos at the ag ambassador booth at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10. 

Dr. Steven Rocca, associate dean of the Jordan College, will host an ice cream social at the ag ambassador booth at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12.

More than 100,000 people from nearly every state and 70 countries visit the Tulare event each year to see the latest in farm equipment and technology. The world’s largest agricultural exposition will host about 1,200 exhibitors, 90 in-person seminars and a wide range of special events on its 2.6 million square-foot location.
