Fresno State’s Mobile Health Unit program is back on the road for the fall 2025 semester, providing free health services to Fresno County residents. Flu vaccines will be available at most sites, in addition to other services, including diabetes and blood pressure screenings, health and wellness assessments, and referrals. For the past 10 years, the mobile health unit has taken a community approach, collaborating with local organizations to host free health care resources and services. Collaborations this semester include:
- Salt + Light Neighborhood Village (Oct. 2 and 16, Nov. 6 and 20, Dec. 4 and 18): Graduate students in the nurse practitioner program work under the supervision of their clinical instructor to provide wellness exams to the residents of this community, many of whom are transitioning from homelessness and do not have access to basic medical services. For some, this is their only opportunity to see a health care provider.
- Community Health and Resource Fairs with Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula (Oct. 23): Since 2017, nursing students and faculty have joined Arambula for a series of community events, aimed at providing information from local agencies in health care, education, legal aid, workforce development and immigration services. The resource fairs reach hundreds of community members from throughout the region, often in rural and underserved areas.
- The Big Fresno Fair (Oct. 6): The Mobile Health Unit is once again partnering with The Big Fresno Fair to provide flu vaccines and health screenings during Seniors and Special Interest Day. However, services will be available to fairgoers of all ages.
- Cherry Avenue Auction (Oct. 14 and 28, Nov. 4 and 18, Dec. 2): Every other Tuesday, nursing students and faculty can be seen at this historic open-air market in southeast Fresno, which is home to hundreds of vendor, food and produce booths. The Mobile Health Unit is located near the green lot.
- Fresno Flea Market (Oct. 19, Nov. 9, Dec. 7): One Sunday a month, the Mobile Health Unit makes a stop at this diverse market located at the Fresno Fairgrounds in south-central Fresno, offering services as early as 7:30 a.m.

In 2024, Fresno State unveiled two new state-of-the-art mobile health vehicles, made possible with state funds secured by Arambula. The vehicles are equipped with high-tech features meant to enhance patient outcomes and expand hands-on learning opportunities for nursing students.
Coordinated by the Fresno State School of Nursing, the mobile health units travel to various communities in Fresno County. Under the supervision of faculty, nursing students at the graduate and undergraduate levels provide free and accessible health care services to local residents.
